Do I have to be Filipino to join FMSA?You do not have to be Filipino to join FMSA! Everyone is welcome to join our "pamilya!"
-
What does FMSA do?We promote and share our heritage with other Filipinos and those in our community who want to learn more about us! FMSA is a cultural club at McMaster University that hosts events such as Halo-Haloween, Rendezvous, and Amazing Race. We also share what our club does and take opportunities to learn from others by going to events such as Pinoys on Parliament in Ottawa, Super Skillz, etc.
-
I didn't come to the first general meeting. Can I still join?Yes! There is no set date or time that you have to "join." We understand that everyone's schedule might not match up with the times we hold our events so even if you missed the First General meeting, you can come to any and all of the other events!
-
What is the Mentorship program? The Mentorship Program is an opportunity for students in first or second year to have an older student (3yr. +) help them with course work, get them accustomed to university life, and be their friend.
-
What is included in the Mentorship program?Within the mentorship program, you are given 1-2 mentors who will guide you throughout the year. There are sometimes small challenges (such as: hangout with them and post it on insta, tagging FMSA), and events that are specifically for you and your mentors. For more information, questions and/or concerns, please contact Kat Cornejo (VP Internal).
-
What type of events are there? We have a lot of different types of events that anyone can go to! Other than our general meetings to introduce the club for the year, we have our Halo-Haloween event filled with fun games and a traditional Filipino desert, Halo-halo. We also have our Thanksgiving Budol Fight with tons of delicious traditional foods. There's our talent showcase, Rendezvous, where we support our fellow community and all the talent that we have! There are so many other fun-filled events that we would love for you to be a part of. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, feel free to contact any of our executive team members
-
Do you have to pay to come to the events? Some events do have an entrance fee due to the food, snacks, and props that the club has to buy. With the membership, students are able to get discounted prices on the events that give a membership price. Also, some of the proceeds that we make from entrance fees will go to our charity of the year, the Indigenous Work Group for Indigenous Affairs (IWGIA).
-
How will the club do their events virtually? With the current situation, FMSA strives to bring the culture to you! We will host events through virtual means such as Discord, Zoom, Instagram/Facebook Live etc., for anyone to come join us!
-
How much do memberships cost and what do they include? This year, memberships are $5. You can get them simply buy buying a single membership or buying certain merchandise packages with a Membership included! Perks for the memberships include: access to certain pages of our Discord, insider fun of your FMSA execs, fun games with FMSA, and many more!
